Welcome to the Concert Bowl.
Established in 1961, Crystal Palace Bowl is an iconic South London venue; an outdoor amphitheatre with 60 years of live music heritage and a legacy as a performance space stretching back more than a century.
It has a unique sculptural stage designed by Ian Ritchie Architects, which won numerous awards and was nominated for the prestigious RIBA Stirling Prize in 1998. This was the first permanent orchestral shell in the world with tunable electronic architecture and one of the first public buildings in the UK to be clad in distinctive pre-rusted Corten steel.
From prog to punk, rock to reggae and pop to the Proms, the Concert Bowl has played host to some of the most eclectic acts in British festival history, most famously at the ‘Garden Party’ events that ran throughout the 1970’s and early 80’s. Artists such as Pink Floyd, Bob Marley, Elton John, Beach Boys, Melanie, Vera Lynn and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra have all headlined the Bowl and added to the rich tradition of live music and performance at the Palace.
Positioned in a beautiful natural amphitheatre capable of holding up to 15,000 people and with the stage facing an ornamental lake, the Bowl sits within the historic Grade II* listed Crystal Palace Park, in the London borough of Bromley. The park is the former home of Joseph Paxton’s world famous Victorian glasshouse and has been since frequented by international athletics, eco-warriers and even the Pope!
In the past decade, the Bowl has been mostly inactive and sadly allowed to fall into a state of disrepair. However, we see a vibrant future for this much loved local landmark and are campaigning for its conversion to a commercial + community multi-use events space and to once again host live music.
